Leverburgh
WiFi Network - Best Available
Leverburgh WiFi Network is run on a not-for-profit
basis for the benefit of the community. Other organisations planning
to offer internet services for the area are primarily interested
in generating profits. Therefore we have the advantage of lower
prices but this is not the only advantage we have.
Working with local organisations utilise
bespoke systems to increase connection and network speeds. These
technologies are not available to other organisations. These clever
systems allow us to use multiple connections to the internet to
boost the bandwidth to our users. Unfortunately other operators
are restricted to a fixed bandwidth. Working with a fixed bandwidth
can be problematic. We heard of one company planning to use a 8mb
connection to service the whole of the Western Isles*. This may,
on the face of it, seem reasonable but when you consider the fact
that if all the users were downloading simultaneously the connection
could be far worse than Dial-up, if useable at all.
Our systems also incorporate the facility to cache
the internet. This further increases speed by drastically reducing
the need to access the internet directly. Caching is commonly used
by the larger ISP's to reduce the strain on their connections and
you may be familiar with it from Googles useage.
We are aware that other companies in the area do not plan to use
caching which will create severe problems at peak times.
We have one further advantage in that we are a small
organisation which will lease much of the equipment for the service.
While this will reduce initial costs it will also allow us to upgrade
to the newest technologies as they develop at no additional cost.
Other organisations have invested heavily in technologies which
are already becoming out-dated and therefore sub-standard.
Oh - and of course we can offer the best support
available anywhere ;-)
**8mb has been quoted on several occassions with 40mb being mentioned on another. |
