Leverburgh WiFi Network - Membership

Leverburgh WiFi Network membership is only open to people who live or work in the village of Leverburgh on the Isle of Harris in the Western Isles of Scotland.

Basically Leverburgh WiFi Network is the same as any othe Internet Service Provider (ISP) in that it offers a connection to the Internet and the World Wide Web. However there are many advantages to accessing the internet via a WLAN which are explained in detail in our Services section.

Why Membership?
Well a normal ISP provides a service that they charge a fixed fee for but as Leverburgh WiFi Network is a Community Network and as such run on a not-for-profit basis it is highly likely that the service will adapt to its' members needs.

Advantages include:

• Access the internet at up to 2mbps.
• Free file transfers to/from other members at up to 2mbps
• Shared storage facilities (such as 30 gb hard drives currently 1gb per user)
• Ability to back-up files to CD or DVD, even if you do not own a writer (details on request).
• Ability to print images at up to A3 size in full colour photographic quality (details on request).
• Flexibility to expand the network to offer more services and stable speeds (on any network speed can vary drastically but this is very rarely admitted by ISP's until you are signed up and suffering!).
