LeverburghWiFi Network

Leverburgh WiFi Network provides Leverburgh on the Isle of Harris in the Western Isles of Scotland with a wireless local area network (WLAN).

In Leverburgh, until recently, the only means of connecting to the internet was via a dial-up connection. Unfortunately our local exchange is far from the latest and greatest. We have therefore had very poor connections (on average 33k).

As the rest of the world has embraced new technologies the Western Isles has lagged well behind. Over the next few years the islands will aquire the facilities which will allow connection to the internet at broadband speeds.

Unfortunately, it is highly likely that the outlying districts will not benefit from these advantages and it is for this reason that The Virtual Hebrides has invested in the equipment to allow a high-speed internet connection of up to 2mbwhich is equal to broadband services offered by other ISP's.
